Case-Study Workshop Day-2

Building upon Session 1 that introduced the foundations of the case method, the second session held on October 7, 2026, emphasized individual preparation and team preparation methods, equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to analyse a business case and participate effectively in a case discussion. The session began at 4.45 PM at the seminar hall, Ahalia School of Management (ASM), Palakkad.

The facilitator, Mr Ajith Sankar R N, Assistant Profeesor, ASM, introduced to the importance of reading a case carefully, identifying the central business problem, distinguishing relevant facts from background information, and approaching the case from a managerial perspective. Emphasis was placed on the fact that case discussions are not merely exercises in finding the “right answer,” but opportunities to analyse situations, evaluate alternatives, and justify decisions using evidence and logical reasoning.

Students were encouraged to begin by understanding the context of the organisation, industry, and market environment presented in the case. They were then guided to identify the key issue or decision facing the organisation, analyse the underlying causes, and assess the information available before developing possible alternatives. They were introduced to the importance of supporting arguments with facts from the case, making reasonable assumptions where necessary, and anticipating alternative viewpoints. Students were encouraged to examine problems from multiple perspectives, consider the potential consequences of different courses of action, and recognise that business decisions often involve uncertainty and competing objectives. The importance of arriving at a practical and well-justified recommendation was also discussed.

The second session closed by 5.45 PM, and the third session will be on October 8, 2026, with the discussion of a live case.
