In accordance with the directions of the University of Calicut, Ahalia School of Management observed the first Wednesday of June 2026 as Anti-Drug Day and formally inaugurated its year-long Anti-Drug Awareness Programme on 03 June 2026 at the ASM Seminar Hall. As part of this initiative, awareness programmes will be conducted regularly on the first Wednesday of every month throughout the year, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to creating a drug-free academic environment.
The event commenced at 11.15 a.m. with the Welcome Address by Ms. Amritha Suresh The Presidential and Inaugural Address was delivered by Prof. Dr. B. Vijayachandran Pillai, Principal & Director, Ahalia School of Management. In his address, he emphasized the importance of making responsible life choices and highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in nurturing ethical values, social responsibility and leadership among future managers. He also called upon students to actively participate in building and sustaining a drug-free campus culture. Mrs. Jyothis Rachel Mathews, Assistant Professor, offered felicitations and appreciated the University’s initiative as well as the institution’s efforts in organizing programmes that address pressing social concerns and contribute to the holistic development of students.
The highlight of the programme was an expert session by Dr. Nigesh V., Consultant Family Physician, Ahalia Diabetes Hospital, Palakkad. Through an engaging and insightful presentation, he explained the physical, psychological, social and legal consequences of drug abuse. He also discussed preventive measures, early warning signs of addiction and the importance of family support, peer influence and counselling in combating substance abuse among youth. As a mark of commitment towards a drug-free society, all participants solemnly took the Anti-Drug Awareness Pledge, affirming their resolve to stay away from drugs and other addictive substances, create awareness among peers and society, support initiatives aimed at maintaining a drug-free campus and Kerala and cooperate with authorities in preventing substance abuse and drug trafficking. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Meenu Kutty v, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource person, management, faculty members, organizing committee and students for their wholehearted participation and support in making the programme a success.
