Ahalia School of Management observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 29 June 2026 at 11:15 AM as part of its commitment to promoting social responsibility and creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

The programme commenced with an awareness session led by Prof. Dr. B. Vijayachandran Pillai, Principal & Director, Ahalia School of Management, who elaborated on the physical, psychological, social and economic consequences of drug abuse. He emphasized that prevention through education, awareness and responsible decision-making is the most effective approach to combating drug addiction. He also encouraged students to become ambassadors of a drug-free society by spreading awareness among their peers and communities. As a mark of their commitment to a healthy and responsible lifestyle, the students took a pledge to remain drug-free and to actively promote awareness about the ill-effects of drug abuse among the youth.

The programme highlighted the 2026 global theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,” emphasizing the need for sustained efforts, innovative strategies and collective action to address the evolving challenges posed by drug abuse and illicit trafficking worldwide. To engage students creatively and intellectually an Essay Writing Competition was organized as the major activity of the observance. The competition provided participants with an opportunity to express their views on the dangers of drug abuse, preventive measures and the role of young people in building a healthier and drug-free society. The certificates were also given to the students based on their performance. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from the students to uphold the values of healthy living, responsible citizenship and social awareness.
