Ahalia School of Management (ASM) celebrated National Reading Day on 18 June 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the ASM LIbrary to commemorate the birth anniversary of P. N. Panicker, the Father of the Library Movement in Kerala and a passionate advocate of literacy and reading. The programme was organized with the objective of fostering a culture of reading among students and highlighting the transformative power of books in personal, academic and societal development.
The celebration commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Sanitha A , Librarian , ASM. This was followed by the Presidential and Inaugural Address by Prof. (Dr.) B. Vijayachandran Pillai, Principal & Director, Ahalia School of Management. In his inspiring speech, he emphasized the significance of National Reading Day and paid tribute to the immense contributions of P. N. Panicker in promoting literacy and nurturing reading habits across the nation. Addressing the students, the Principal underscored the importance of cultivating a daily reading habit as a means of broadening knowledge, enhancing creativity, and developing critical thinking skills. He encouraged the gathering to embrace the slogan “Read and Grow”, reminding everyone that reading is a lifelong companion that enriches both personal and professional lives. As part of the celebration, a Book Review Contest was organized in the library, providing students with an opportunity to engage critically with books and share their perspectives. To recognize and encourage their efforts, it was announced that certificates would be awarded to the First, Second and Third Prize Winners of the competition. The National Reading Day celebration was a resounding success, creating awareness about the value of reading and inspiring students to strengthen their relationship with books. The programme not only paid a fitting tribute to P. N. Panicker’s enduring legacy but also rekindled a spirit of learning, knowledge-sharing and intellectual growth among students and faculty members alike.
