Ahalia School of Management organized a One Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Enhancing Research Quality: Ethics and Publication in High-Impact Journals” on 28 March 2026 at 10.00 AM in the ASM Seminar Hall. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing research competency, promoting ethical research practices and equipping faculty members and research scholars with knowledge about publishing in high-impact indexed journals. The programme was led by Prof. (Dr.) B. Vijayachandran Pillai, Principal & Director, Ahalia School of Management, who served as the resource person for the sessions. Dr. Padmavathy PA., Associate Professor delivered the welcome address and highlighted the growing importance of research quality in academic institutions.
Prof. (Dr.) B. Vijayachandran Pillai, Principal & Director, ASM delivered the Presidential Address and Inaugural Address for the FDP. He emphasized the importance of research quality in higher education and ethical responsibilities of researchers. He also highlighted the growing emphasis on indexed publications for accreditation and ranking purposes. He stressed that quality research contributes not only to institutional reputation but also to knowledge creation and societal development. He officially inaugurated the programme and wished the participants a productive learning experience. Ms. Jyothis Rachel Mathews, Assistant Professor presented the profile of the Resource Person.
The first session on Research Ethics – Building Responsible Scholars began at 10.30 AM and focused on research ethics and responsible scholarship. The session emphasized that ethical research practices are essential for maintaining academic credibility and research integrity. The resource person discussed ethical considerations during various stages of research including problem identification, literature review, research design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation and report writing. Special emphasis was given to plagiarism, proper citation practices, avoiding data fabrication and falsification, authorship ethics and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence tools in research.
The second session on Scholarly Writing & Publishing in High-Quality Indexed Journals commenced at 11.45 AM. The session covered important aspects such as structure of research articles, preparation of abstracts, literature review organization, methodology presentation, data analysis techniques and conclusion writing. The resource person also explained the process of selecting suitable journals using indexing databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, ABDC and UGC-CARE. He discussed peer review processes, manuscript submission guidelines, responding to reviewer comments and ethical practices in publication. The session also focused on post-publication strategies such as improving research visibility through academic platforms, citation building and networking with researchers.
Following the technical sessions, an interactive discussion session was conducted where participants shared their research experiences and clarified their doubts regarding publication challenges, impact factor journals and collaborative research opportunities. An assessment session was conducted to evaluate participant learning outcomes. Participants actively engaged in the assessment activities and demonstrated improved understanding of research ethics, journal selection and scholarly writing techniques. Mr. Ajith Sankar R.N., Assistant Professor delivered the vote of thanks. The feedback received from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Certificates were distributed to all participants who successfully attended the programme. The programme concluded at 3.00 PM with active participation and meaningful academic interaction. A total of 37 participants, including faculty members and research scholars, benefitted from this FDP.
