As part of evening skill development sessions and with the objective of improving critical thinking, articulate reasoning, public speaking, and collaborative dynamics, a specialized Group Discussion (GD) preparation training was conducted for first year MBA students on September 2, 2026, at 4.45 pm. 29 students participated in the session. Students were divided into three groups and evaluated across three topics designed to test current affairs awareness, technological foresight, and environmental management perspectives.
The following were the three GD topics: (1) Iran-US War: Who benefits from the stand-off? (2) AI in the workplace: Will AI create more jobs than what it eliminates? (3) Floods in Nepal-Tibet: Can prevention be better than disaster management? The discussion time was approximately 20-30 minutes for each team.
Participants were evaluated on five parameters: (1) Content & Subject Knowledge: Quality of arguments, inclusion of data/facts, logical structure, and relevance to the topic. (2) Communication Skills: Clarity of thought, articulation, fluency, appropriate vocabulary, and active listening. (3) Leader-ship & Initiative: Ability to initiate the discussion constructively, steer chaotic debates back on track, and summarize key takeaways effectively with-out dominating. (4) Teamwork & Cooperation: Inclusiveness toward quieter participants, respectful handling of counterarguments, and building upon peer ideas. (5) Body Language & Etiquette: Maintaining eye contact, assertive yet polite tone, open posture, and non-verbal engagement signals.
Individual feedback was given to the GD participants. From Team 1, Bibi Hajira, Swetha R and Fathima Shahana emerged as top participants. From Team 2, Augraha U, Varshini and Anirudh D emerged as active participants. From Team 3, Krishna S, Mavitha S, Aswathy N L and Abinaya B emerged as top participants.
